Future Broodmares

WQH2024Sale-119.jpg

In the spring of 2025, I decided to ‘bite the bullet’ and go the ICSI route and cross our good mare, Probably The Ticket (With All Probability x Classic One Spot), aka “Hooker” (she came with that name) to High Brow Cat. This mare was chosen not only for her impressive show record, but more importantly, her heart. Hooker literally has it all and during her performance years, would give 150% every time, not only in the arena, but on the ranch.

I had a few ‘young guns’ ask why I wouldn’t choose a more modern pedigree to breed to, and my answer was always the same, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it”. Why would I go to an offshoot? Why not go straight to the top! We all know the produce record High Brow Cat has! I had the proof right in my barn!

Even though our HBC son, Catsanova Cowboy, was still sound and looking great, I wanted another son to take his place when he aged further. I was hoping to get four embryos by this cross. Well, out of two flushes, the result was an impressive 11 viable embryos!

In May of 2025, Catsanova Cowboy suffered a debilitating injury right before we were going to turn all the stallions out to pasture. This was a devastating set back for us emotionally, as it is hard to watch him walk, as his hindquarters were affected. We already had all the mares sorted and in the studs’ individual pastures, so not only did we need to gather and sort all the ranch owned and customer mares from Cowboy’s pasture, but then we had to break the news to all the customers and give them the opportunity to choose another ranch stallion. Most of the outside mares went to Playgun Watcher, which we wanted to limit his numbers because of his age (21), but he handled them just fine. Fast forward a couple months. Cowboy ended up at CSU and had surgery done on his spine, but the morning after that procedure, he unexpectantly passed away. He was such an integral part of our program and we are definitely going to miss him. He had such a quirky attitude, and he passed that on to his babies. They are kind, talented, and athletic. We are very thankful to have quite a few of his daughters to pass on his talent!

We are excited for the 2026 foaling season, not only for the embryo HBC x Probably The Ticket babies, but all the foals we will have. At this time, we will not sell any embryo foals or embryos, but it may be an option in the future.
